Silvia Mazzarelli


Ms. Silvia Mazzarelli is an international development professional, specialized in human rights and international justice with extensive experience in child-rights programming and influencing in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region.

Ms. Silvia is an Italian national who has been living in the LAC region since 2006. She has worked in various countries of the region including Ecuador, Guatemala, Dominican Republic; and she is currently based in Panama City, Panama. She worked with various Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), faith-based organizations and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). She also worked for four years with Plan International, first as a Programme Leader in the Dominican Republic and then as a Regional Head of Child Rights Policy and Programming.

From 2012 to 2015 she acted as the Caribbean Representative in the International NGO Council on Violence Against Children, with the task of supporting the United Nations Secretary General’s Special Representative on Violence against Children with the follow-up to the recommendations of the UN Study on Violence Against Children.

She has been working with Arigatou International – GNRC in various capacities since 2006 including: volunteering with GNRC–Ecuador, Coordinator of GNRC–Dominican Republic and Network and Programmes Manager for the LAC region. Ms. Silvia is also one of the International Trainers of Arigatou International’s Ethics Education Programme, “Learning to Live Together Together.”

Ms. Silvia holds a Master of Law (LL.M) in International Crime and Justice from the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute and the University of Torino, a Master of Arts (MA) in International Relations and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Political Science from the University of Rome.
